Prior to this trip, I had heard that Norwegian Airlines was basic. And basic it was. But I actually didn’t mind flying it since the ticket was so cheap. $350 roundtrip, nonstop from EWR to BCN? HELL YEAH, BITCH. You can’t even get that price to fly across the country sometimes, let alone across the ocean.
If you buy a basic economy ticket, or ‘LowFare’ ticket, here is everything you DON’T get:
- Seat selection
- Food
- Snacks
- Any sort of beverage besides one single cup of water, which you have to ask them (or trade a kidney for) for
- No checked bag
Here is everything you DO get:
- In-flight entertainment
- Carry-on bag + personal item, totaling to 10 kg (I KNOW, unbelievable) – Ben and I did get around the system on the way back by wearing our heaviest clothing and our jackets, and stuffing a bunch of items into our jacket pockets when checking in, but it was v stressful and I would recommend avoiding that if you can
- Money in the bank
Overall, I think I would fly Norwegian again if the price if right (queue Price is Right theme song + Bob Barker). However, I think I would splurge next time and pay for a checked baggage. Although we were only in Barcelona for 4 full days, I felt like I was limiting myself to things I wanted to buy, either for myself or friends/family, since I knew I wasn’t checking a bag. Guess that just means I’ll have to go back to Spain, and I am not mad at that.
