how to be a traveler in your own home

How, you ask? By cooking!

2020 has been the year of no travels. Quarantine gave me more time on my hands, so I used that time to cook different dishes from around the globe. Some were attempts to recreate my favorite dishes I’ve eaten during my travels, and some were dishes from places still on my bucket list. There are a few food blogs I follow, so I’ve linked their recipes in the caption in case you want to give it a go! My top ones are definitely The Woks of Life, Just One Cookbook, Marion’s Kitchen, RecipeTin Eats, and Simply Recipes.

Here are all of the places I’ve “traveled” to in 2020:

1. Argentina

3. Greece

Chicken Souvlaki Bowls with Garlic Fries via Half Baked Harvest

4. Hong Kong

Baked Pork Chop Rice via Ang Sarap

5. Italy

Chicken Karaage via Just One Cookbook (and some fried soft shelled crab on the bottom row)

7. Korea

8. Mexico

9. Norway

Gravlax (via Ben) via Joshua Weissman

10. Philippines

Longanisa with garlic fried rice (longanisa is not homemade – still working on that one!)

11. Singapore

12. Spain

OK, so technically no cooking involved with this Charcuterie Board, but these are Spanish meats and the octopus and sardines are straight from Spain. Plus, I did make the Crostini via All Recipes

13. Taiwan

14. Thailand

15. United States

16. Vietnam

And then here are a few bonus ones where I wasn’t sure which country to categorize them under:

Aaaaand just like everyone else, we baked some sourdough bread (well, Ben did because I don’t bake). We first tried the starter since yeast was nowhere to be found at the beginning of quarantine. Once they were back in stock, we tried the regular recipe, which I liked much better

That’s a wrap on 2020! Here’s hoping that we’ll actually get to travel next year and I can go to some of these countries and try out the real deal for myself!

About the author
