how to be a traveler in the maldives

The Maldives is an Asian country located southwest of India and Sri Lanka. It consists of 2,000 small islands, but only 200 of those are inhabited. During our honeymoon, Ben and I got the chance to visit Kooddoo Island, and Malé, Maldive’s capital city. Here is what you should be doing in the Maldives:

Part I

1. Take a dip in your own private pool
2. Watch the sunset from your private villa
3. Stargaze

I couldn’t get a good photo without a professional camera but the stars here are unmatched. You are in the middle of the Indian Ocean with no city light pollution. I was in awe

4. Take a bath/shower with a view of the ocean

5. Go snorkeling
Snorkel time!
6. Get a massage
7. Take a Maldivian cooking class
8. Lay on the beach
9. Have a drink

Even if it’s 11 AM. You’re on vacation. Who cares?

10. Eat what you want but don’t forget to try out the local dishes

Calories don’t count. Again, you’re on vacation

Restaurant views
Noodle bar
11. Swim around in the main pool. Get a pool snack too, while you’re at it

12. Go on a dolphin cruise
Dhow for the dolphin cruise
Caught the sunset from the dolphin cruise

13. Take advantage of all the photo ops
14. Relax and enjoy the view

For someone who is always GO GO GO (especially while on vacation), this was a nice change of pace for me

Part II

If you’re stopping by the mainland of Malé, the capital city, which I would not recommend (see my next post on “Things I Learned in the 6 Days I Spent in the Maldives” on why), these are some things you can do:

1. See the local offerings at the fish market/fruit & vegetable market

We were actually only able to find the fruit & vegetable market, even though the hotel front desk told us it’s right next to each other. And honestly, it’s just a bunch of bananas

2. Visit the Old Grand Mosque

But you actually cannot go inside if you are not Muslim. Plus, I think after visiting the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, everything else would pale in comparison

As you can see, there is not much to do here so you’re better off spending an extra day on one of the islands.
